Meet Kay
Hi, I’m Kay Pence
I grew up in a large family in a small town. Scott County has always been my home. My husband Mike and I have three sons, 6 grandchildren and are looking forward to our 50th wedding anniversary in 2025. Iowa values of respect, freedom, honesty, work and local control are important to me.
I’ve never shied away from hard work. I worked 27 years as a telephone technician while also raising a family and attending college part-time. After earning Bachelor and Masters degrees I started working full-time for my union, the Communications Workers of America. Union activism introduced me to politics. I enjoyed helping people but soon realized some issues were bigger than could be solved in one worksite or company.
Rights and benefits are earned - not given. But as we have seen lately rights can be stripped away with the stoke of a pen from a governor, unelected judge or appointed bureaucrat. We must be constantly vigilant to protect our rights, our freedoms, our environment, and quality of life - not just for ourselves but also for those who will
come after us.
I’m running because the state I loved is being hollowed out and too many people are being left behind. It is getting hard to recognize our state which was famous for top notch public education and Iowa nice.
Des Moines politicians are defunding public schools and state parks to give corporations and the wealthy additional tax cuts. They are attacking worker’s rights and inserting political agendas into your doctor’s office. They are putting corporate interests over private property rights and our shared environment.
Will you join me in taking our state back, getting politicians out of our doctor’s offices and restoring a healthy environment where everyone can thrive?
